A buddy just bought an '82 Honda Goldwing that needs a new starter motor. The book says it is necessary to pull the engine to change the starter because the starter shaft engages a sprocket and chain. And when the starter is pulled the sprocket and chain drop to the bottom of the engine case then the rear case has to be removed to rehang the sprocket and chain. The question is; does anyone know any shadetree tricks ie.(drill hole in top of case or use a powerful magnet, or ? to keep the ch/spr from dropping? Any ideas out there?
